SANDTON – Various role players recently took part in a crime combatting operation in Sandton.

Various role players recently held an integrated crime combatting operation in Sandton.

The operation saw several successes. This according to Brigadier Egen Moodley, station commander at the Sandton Police Station.

Moodley said the operation took place from 6pm on 11 January to 2am on 12 January and involved the Johannesburg North Cluster Trio task team, Sandton Police Vispol CCU, Sandton Police Reservists, and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.

Eight marked and unmarked police vehicles and one Metro police vehicle were used during the operation.

The arrests include:

  •  6 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol.
  •  5 arrests for sexual offenses (prostitution)
  •  1 Rolex gang member arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm/ammunition and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle in the CBD.
The hijacked vehicle that was recovered.

Police seized several items:

  •  1 unlicensed 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off
  • 5 live rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • 3 pairs of handgloves
  •  4 balaclavas
  • 4 sets of number plates
  • 1 hijacked silver Ford Figo vehicle.
