Message from Sandton station commander

SANDTON – The Sandton Police Station commander spoke about his wishes for the community this festive season.

Brigadier Egen Moodley, station commander at the Sandton Police Station spoke to Sandton Chronicle about this year’s highlights for them.

“On behalf of the station management and personnel of SAPS Sandton, I take this opportunity to wish all community members a safe, joyous and peaceful festive season and a prosperous 2019.”

He said the community can rest assured that Sandton police and their law enforcement partners will be out in full force to ensure that everyone feels safe. “We have already commenced with our safer festive season operations and have recorded a number of successes thus far, including arrests for possession of unlicensed firearms and for serious and violent crimes.”

He spoke about some of the successes for 2018 where many arrests and convictions have been secured for serious and violent crimes like murder, robberies, and crimes against woman and children. These include several life sentences that have been secured by the detectives in conjunction with partners in the criminal justice cluster. “All have been reported and published in the local media.

“I also wish to place on record my sincere thanks and appreciation to the ward councillors, JMPD, National Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Police, CoJ by-law enforcement, security companies, residents associations, Sandton businesses, Sandton City Improvement District (CID), Sandton Guardians, the Sandton Community Police Forum (CPF) and subforums as well as the Sandton Victim Empowerment Centre (VEC) for their assistance in crime combatting, crime detection and victim support during 2018.”

Moodley said the approach this during the festive season and into 2019 is to increase police visibility and police action in crime hotspots in an integrated and multidisciplinary approach together with our law enforcement partners in order to prevent crime and detect crimes that have occurred.

“We will continue to build crime prevention partnerships with the community, community structures, organisations, businesses and religious organisations into 2019 and beyond.”

He said the senseless killing of Metro police and security officers during the course of the year is cause for great concern. “I urge all law enforcement officers and security officers to take the necessary safety precautions and urge them to use their safety equipment and apply their tactical skills and training to ensure their safety over this festive period and into 2019.

“Spare a thought and a prayer or two for all law enforcement officers/security officers who will be on duty throughout the festive season, ensuring the safety of the community.”

Moodley concluded, “Take care, be safe and God bless you all.”
