Sandton Licensing Department to open in the new year

SANDTON – After months, the Marlboro Testing Station renovations are complete, however, no official opening date has been announced.

Months after the renovation of the Sandton Licensing Department in Marlboro started the improvements are almost finished.

Although no official opening has been announced, the station is currently busy with a dry-run of the new systems that have been put in place.

The Sandton Chronicle paid a visit to the site to view the progress that has been made. During the visit, the final touches were being made and a thorough cleaning of the area was underway.

Werner Smit, Ward 109 councillor said with the new improvements, residents will know exactly where to go when they enter the building.

Smit said there is a lot of new systems in place and a few teething problems are expected with this pilot project.

“They will make an announcement of an official opening date.”

Melusi Ngcobo, head of licensing at the station, said that the Enatis system is up and running, but there are still a few things that need to happen.

“We want to have a soft-opening first where we can find out if there are any issues in the systems.”

During the soft opening, the staff will receive training on the new systems and familiarise themselves with how everything works.

Ngcobo continued that one of the features the station will have is that it will be completely cash-less and residents can pay with either their debit or credit cards.

He said the new ticketing system will be simple. “If you have all your documents, you are issued with a ticket which tells you which area you should go to and you will be able to track and verify where your transaction is.”

He said people can sit anywhere and you can track your number on television screens mounted on the walls, which will tell the resident which counter to go to.

Residents who applied for licence cards at the department can still collect their cards at the testing station. They are open from 7.30am to 3pm and residents must bring their receipt or temporary licence together with their ID book to collect.

Details: Call 011 321 6398 to verify if the card is ready.
