Flash back: Not for sensitive viewers! Dog saved after savage beating in Riverclub

SANDTON – The Sandton SPCA recently rescued a dog after it was abused.

The Sandton SPCA responded to a horrible case of animal abuse which took place in Riverclub.

According to Jaco Pieterse, general manager of the Sandton SPCA, they are in possession of a video showing how a dog was beaten by his owner for several minutes.

The incident occurred on 2 September and the SPCA released a shortened video of the incident in which the cries of the dog could be heard as he was struck by the accused.

Pieterse said they rushed to the aid of Scotty, a puppy of about eight months, who wasn’t just smacked once or twice – he was whipped again and again by the very same person who was supposed to protect him. “Not even his piercing cries could make it stop… but we did.”

He added that they had rushed to the scene because animal abuse was a criminal offence. The owner was arrested and Scotty was taken to the SPCA where he will stay until the court case has been finalised.
Pieterse said the accused applied for bail which was granted at R500. “The case has been remanded until 30 November.

“We had reports that the owner tends to be very violent and aggressive and would like to thank the Sandton police for their excellent service and assistance. They did not hesitate to assist us and dispatched two vehicles to accompany us to remove the dog,” said Pieterse.

He added that the owner of the dog said he was ‘correcting’ the dog because the dog was chewing his shoes.

Scotty the dog was rescued and is safely at the Sandton SPCA.
