More than 100 arrested

SANDTON – The Sandton police recently arrested more than 100 workers after an illegal protest.

Swift response by members of the Sandton police led to the arrests of more than 100 people.

According to Captain Granville Meyer, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station more than 100 disgruntled workers were arrested at Woodmead Retail Park.

He said the workers arrived at the shopping complex on a bus from Midrand and started to protest outside a Dis-Chem store.

“They then threw stones and damaged the windows of the store and damaged several motor vehicles in the parking lot,” said Meyer. He continued that cases of public violence and malicious damage to property have been opened against the employees.

“All the suspects are currently in detention and will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 12 December.”
