Update: PROTEST: 150 tow truck drivers take to the streets of Sandton

SANDTON – About 150 tow truck drivers from various associations drove to the Discovery office to hand over a memorandum.

*Note: A previous version of this story indicated that it was only Satra that was involved in the protest action. It has since come to light that Nata and Utasa were also involved in the protest.

Yesterday, 28 November:

Sandton roads users are advised to use alternative routes  on 28 November due to civil protest action by South African Towing Recovery Association (Satra), National African Towing Association (Nata) and United Towing Association of South Africa (Utasa) between 10am to 1.30pm.

According to the Satra Facebook page, workers will be arriving in a motorcade to Discovery to hand over a memorandum to management. They are expecting around 150 tow trucks to make their way through Sandton.

Protestors are unhappy about the low rates they are paid as tow truck drivers. Sandton Chronicle journalist, Pieter Dempsey, says the area is utter chaos at the moment.
