More than R100 000 raised for the Qhubeka Education Project at golf day

SANDTON – The golf day helped to raise over R100 000 for the Qhubeka Education Project.

Varsity College Sandton helped to raise over R100 000 for the Qhubeka Education Project thanks to their annual golf day.

The Qhubeka Education Project is Varsity College’s national corporate social investment initiative for the year. The project is an educational relief programme that raises funds to supply bicycles for children.

In South Africa 12 out of 16 million school-going children walk to and from school and 500 000 of them walk more than two hours to school and two hours back each day.

With a Qhubeka Bicycle, a child’s commute time is reduced by up to 75 per cent.

The sunny morning started with all corporates and individuals dressed for the occasion and kitted out with all golfing essentials. The sponsors of the event occupied 15 holes and had a variety of treats in store for the golfers.

On the day, some star players were announced with Deanan Naidoo and Pranesh Naidoo, who were representing Crawford Prep Fourways, coming in first place. Ros Truelock representing Varsity College Waterfall won Ladies Longest Drive, and Jualian Samu representing Crawford Italia won Men’s Longest Drive.

Varsity College national student services manager Vasanthee Govender said, “It was another successful golf day hosted at Parkview Golf Club. We would like to say a huge thank you to our title sponsor GTC and our other sponsors Jurgens Bekker, The Modern Dandy, Mpower Projects, Spur Group, Pro Timber, Copy Star, Prime SA and Toyota for their contributions and participation in aid of our national CSI initiative, the Qhubeka Education Project.”
