#JHBTraffic: Notice of road closures for Cycle Challenge

SANDTON – Several roads will be closed for the duration of the 94.7 Cycle Challenge.

The 94.7 Cycle Challenge now in its 22nd year is set to kick off on 18 November.

With the route being run in reverse this year, residents are warned about the road closures that will be in place on the day.

Cyclists will enjoy the same city-spanning route and the challenge doesn’t get any easier but now the climbs will be downhills, and riders will need to work where they used to be freewheeling.

A big difference in terms of the enjoyability for many riders will be that the cluster of steep hills that made the last 10km of the route such a grind in previous years, will now be tackled and gotten out of the way in the first 10km of the reverse route, while legs are still fresh.

The route starts and finishes at the Riversands Commercial Park in Fourways.

In Sandton several roads will be closed for cyclists:

  • Homestead Avenue
  • Jan Smuts Avenue
  • M1 South
  • Woodmead Drive.

Motorists are urged to plan their routes and day accordingly.
