#HeatWave: High temperatures in Joburg expected to last until the weekend

JOBURG – Residents are warned of a heatwave that is expected to last until the weekend. Here are some tips on how to keep cool and save water ...

Johannesburg Water has urged residents to be alert as high temperatures (above 30°C) are expected to continue until the weekend (17/18 November).

Although residents are urged to keep cool and hydrated during this period, the MMC for Infrastructure, Environment and Service Delivery Nico de Jager has also appealed to residents to use water sparingly to avoid reservoirs running dry.

He also asks to keep in mind that Joburg is still under level 1 water restrictions.

Watering gardens is prohibited between 6am and 6pm in the summer months (1 September to 31 March), and washing pavements and walkways using hosepipes is also not allowed.

You can practise the following water saving tips:

  • Do not leave taps dripping
  • Wash your car on the grass as this will water your lawn at the same time
  • Use a watering can instead of a hosepipe
  • Shorten your showering time
  • Use a glass of water to rinse when brushing your teeth
  • Take shallow baths – avoid filling bathtubs above a 100mm-depth
  • Re-use water to water your garden and pot plants.
