Sandton Police ramp up child safety programme efforts

SANDTON – The child safety campaign will continue in Bryanston throughout November.

The Sandton Police Station is ramping up its efforts to teach young children stranger safety programmes at various schools in the Sandton area.

Captain Granville Meyer, alongside his puppet Captain Khumalo, travelled to the Christian Life Private School in Buccleuch to give a presentation on the programme. Meyer said that they have ramped up their efforts in light of a string of suspicious child approaches.

Meyer explained that the Captain Khumalo programme is designed to educate children and children in primary school children who are between the age of three and 12 a range of safety themes. The programme also seeks to encourage children to turn to the police for help and advice.

“He is a ‘trusted’ character that addresses several safety issues, primarily driven by a crime prevention approach. Captain Khumalo is not an authoritarian figure, he’s assuring and engaging,” said Meyer.

The Captain Khumalo child safety programme will continue in November throughout Bryanston.
