UPDATE: Armed robbery ends up in arrest of three suspects on William Nicol Drive

PARKMORE – The suspects ran on foot and were then arrested after fleeing from their vehicle.

Update: 6pm

Randburg police spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja has confirmed that three suspects have been arrested after an armed robbery occurred at a business at around 2pm today (2 November).

Three suspects between 31 to 34 years old are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court to face charges of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He explained that it is alleged that on 2  November police received a complaint of an armed robbery in progress on the corner of Bram Fischer Drive and Dover Street in Ferndale.

The vehicle was spotted and a chase ensued whereby the suspect lost control of their vehicle causing an accident near William Nicol Drive and Peter Place.

“The suspects got out of the vehicle and ran away. They were chased by the police and security officials, [and were then] arrested. Several items were recovered including a loaded firearm with filled-off serial numbers.

The firearm will be taken for ballistics tests in order to determine if it was not involved or used in other crimes,” said Maja.

Update:

Geoff Shapiro of 24/7 Security confirmed that they managed to arrest two of the suspects.

“The two males were running through Parkmore when they were spotted by a guard at a boom,” he said.

Shapiro added that they were being chased by police, who then arrived after they were apprehended by the guards.

He said the suspects were not armed.
