Home-made African wares in Bryanston

SANDTON – A budding entrepreneur wishes to expand her Africa goods business.

A budding entrepreneur who has been selling her African crafts, dreams of expanding her operation.

Since 2015 Neo Phokanoka has been attending various markets across the city.

She recently had a stall at the Bryanston Country Club for its Heritage Day celebrations, with her stall a fitting theme to her African heritage.

Phokanoka named her business ‘All Africa Goods’ and has around 20 different items on sale.

She manufactures some of the items herself and sources her materials from East Africa and gets her Africa prints from Zambia.

“I have a person who helps design and makes the clothes for me.” She said she does have a shop in Randburg and her future plans are to acquire an industrial machine for manufacturing and then employ more people to assist with manufacturing.

“Some of the challenges I have faced so far is that my business was not registered and that I did not have a credit card machine, but it is now registered and I was able to get a card machine for the transactions.”

Her most popular items are the themed placemats which depict African scenes and animals. “I buy the material in town with the print on it and the items with the big five on them are very popular with tourists.”

Her items range from R30 to R500.
