Marlboro organisation provides relief for drought-stricken areas

SANDTON – Due to water shortages a town in the Eastern Cape recently received 25 000 litres of drinking water from a non-profit organisation.

 

A non-profit organisation in Marlboro Gardens recently donated water to drought-stricken areas in the Eastern Cape.

Ashraful Uloom, an NPO based in Marlboro Gardens is involved in a wide array of activities one of which is water distributions.

Ahmed Ismail, a volunteer at the organisation said they recently returned from a location called Stofwolk in Hankey around 80km from Port Elizabeth.

Ismail said they distributed 25 000 litres of drinking water to the community there.

“The distribution took place on 11 September and the drive was organised by Ashraful Uloom,” said Ismail.

He said that donations came from residents of Marlboro Gardens and surrounds with some contributions from out of the area as well.

Water was distributed to the residents of Hanley due to water shedding. “Their taps are only open from 4.30am to 8am and from 4.30pm to 8pm every day.

“We were five volunteers from the organisation that went down to distribute the water and there were 12 volunteers from Hankey assisting.
