Special Knead Café is looking for a new home

SANDTON – The Special Kneads Cafe, run by young adults with special needs, is looking for a new home in Bryanston.

The Special Knead Café, a café run entirely by young adults with special needs, is urgently looking for a new location for their coffee shop.

The café which was located at the Fluffs and Tufts kennels aimed to provide a place for the young adults to earn a living. The café was previously located in Kyalami but due to some problems with the council, they were forced to move. Kim Rundle helped start up the café so that her daughter with special needs would have the opportunity to have her own business

Now once again the team will have to find a new place to run their café from. Just a few months after they opened their café at their new premises they have once again been informed that they are on council land and cannot operate there.

“We have had to move at short notice from our popular venue and as a community-based non-profit organisation dedicated to changing the world for special needs adults, we are now looking for a new home and hope to be up and running again soon,” said Rundle.

With the job market in a parlous state for many young people across South Africa, there is an even more desperate need for job opportunities for special needs children.

“The talent and dedication of our 3 special needs staff, who took charge of the running of the café in such a professional way, together with all our superb volunteers, has shone through as they found an avenue to follow their dreams and passions. It has been a wonderful time for the children and parents and we certainly see this as just the beginning of the next chapter of our journey.”

Since opening four months ago, the Special Knead Café has provided a kind place for anyone needing a break to come and relax and have a quality cup of coffee in a place where they could feel they were part of the family.

“Fortunately, we have amazing sponsors and donors and our quality barista and baking equipment is being kept in storage until we have relocated. With the ongoing support and help of our sponsors and a caring community, we can truly make a difference together,” concluded Rundle.

Anyone who can potentially assist with finding a suitable new venue for the Special Knead Café in the Bryanston or Magalissig area is urged to call Kim Rundle on 082 415 1283.
