Woman robbed of R1 000 at ATM

SANDTON – Police arrested four suspects after they allegedly stole R1 000 from a victim in Sunninghill.

A woman was recently robbed of R1 000 and her bank card at an ATM in Sunninghill.

The incident happened on 5 September and Savika Armed Response tracking and tracing team managed to track the suspects’ vehicle.

Sergeant Matome Tlamela, a spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, said the vehicle was traced to the Sandton CBD and then Morningside. She said after a long chase, four suspects were arrested at a shopping centre in Midrand during an intelligence drive.

She added that Savika Armed Response arrested the suspects with backup from the Midrand police, Midrand Community Policing Forum, community patrollers and ARN Security.

“The suspects were taken to the Sandton Police Station,” said Tlamela, who further advised, “The suspects are still in custody as they are linked to other crimes in the area.”

Ravi Jiwuth of Savika Armed Response (Pty) Ltd, tracking and tracing team said that together with Marlin Pillay and Wayne Morton, they were alerted about the incident by centre management.

He said they started to track the vehicle when the chase ensued and they were eventually arrested in Midrand.

“The suspects drove a white Toyota Corolla that was a rental car,” advised Jiwuth.
