MMC Sifumba conducts oversight visits throughout Region E

MORNINGSIDE – The MMC conducted the visits to ensure that all necessary maintenance and repairs are carried out.

MMC for Community Development Nonhlanhla Sifumba conducted oversight visits to various public pools and recreation centres throughout Region E to ensure that all necessary repairs and maintenance are carried out.

Sifumba conducted oversight visits to Region C and Region E on 21 August, which included the Ernest Ullmann Recreation Centre in Morningside and the Rivonia Public Library.

The inspections are carried out to ensure that the city’s public swimming pools are ready to open on 1 September, which is the start of swimming season. They are also done to ensure that all repairs and maintenance are carried out as necessary so that residents can enjoy their experience using the city’s public facilities.

Sifumba said that last year the oversight visits had helped ensure that 90 per cent of swimming pools were opened on time. This year, with the inclusion of recreation centres into the oversight visits, she hopes this number will grow to 95 per cent.

The inspection of the pools is an initiative the MMC started to ensure that all repairs and maintenance that needed to be done has been completed and to follow up on any issues that might prevent the pools from opening at the beginning of September. To date, Sifumba has visited nearly 40 public pools and recreation centres as a part of her oversight visits and will continue with oversight visits in regions B, D and F.

Sifumba said during her visit to Ernest Ullmann Centre that while some recreations centres posed some challenges she is impressed with the condition of the Ernest Ullmann Centre. She added that it was wonderful to see the centre in such good condition and commended the staff for being so dedicated to maintaining its good condition.
