Vodacom celebrates dedicated women

SANDTON – Nine women from non-profit organisations were celebrated for their contributions to helping others.

Nine women from non-profit organisations who have dedicated their time and resources to help some of the country’s most needy people were honoured by Vodacom during a Women’s Month event.

Vodacom has supported the organisations for many years and to date has provided over R50 million in support of them.

Among the organisations celebrated for their contributions to other include the Smile Foundation, the Orlando Children’s Home and the Walter Sisulu Paediatric Cardiac Foundation.

Takalani Netshitenzhe, the chief officer for corporate affairs at Vodacom said that she had been profoundly impacted by the difficult work that these women had dedicated themselves too.

“Usually when we talk about civil society we talk about a faceless movement without due regard to the fact that these NPO’s are made up of and headed by women who are contributing to saving the world.”

Many of the organisations honoured focus their work on children, from those who have been abused and abandoned and need a safe haven to those who need medical care.

The deputy minister of social development, Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu highlighted that one of the challenges of her job is ensuring that the non-profit organisations are all compliant and are not used to enrich individuals.

Miriam Mazibuko from the Orlando Children’s Home said that Vodacom has been dedicated to assisting the young children at the home. She added that they had the courage to assist a little-known children’s home and make a difference in the lives of many young people. “To us, that kindness has been a blessing. It has now been 10 years that they’ve been sharing with us their resources, which came in various forms.”

However, she thanked the organisations for their unwavering support of others and Vodacom for its dedication to supporting the non-profit organisations.
