SANDTON – The Sandton Police Station has issued important tips for the community to use.

The Sandton Police Station recently issued safety tips for the community.

This is according to Captain Molefe Mogodi, spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station on behalf of the station.

“While we are doing our best to stop crime affecting our community, we, at the same time, request the community to take measures which might assist them when in a crime situation.”

He said that victims are often followed from various places such as shopping malls, airports or any other place where the criminals can target you.

He provided the following tips which can help, depending on the situation:

  • Look out for suspicious-looking vehicles following you. Keep looking in the rear view mirror for suspicious movements
  • The criminals can monitor and follow you, but finally, do what is known as ‘handing over’ where they leave you to the other group. The group will be the one that will rob you
  • So do not relax thinking that the people who were following you have left, always be vigilant
  • Be aware of suspicious people while shopping or when at a restaurant. Please alert the police who are patrolling your sector or the security, even if you cannot confirm your suspicion
  • Never make your valuable items such as jewellery visible, especially while driving. Those are the goods which attract the criminals.

He continued that the sector details are very important in the case of an emergency.
