Joburg chairpersons capacitated to enhance oversight

JOBURG – PricewaterhouseCoopers provided training for the City's Section 79 chairpersons.

The City of Johannesburg‘s Section 79 oversight committees’ chairpersons were recently trained at PricewaterhouseCoopers in better tools and methods used to conduct oversight.

Section 79 committees enhance oversight and scrutiny of service delivery, project implementation and policy implementation.

Alex Christians, chairperson of Section 79 chairpersons, said this is intended to ensure and enhance accountability and scrutiny by the City.

“In order for the legislature to be able to do robust oversight, we need routing of reports, monthly meetings between MMC’s and chairpersons, capacitation of councillors, Capex programmes, IT governance, budget process, risk assessment, and mitigation,” he said.

Christians said a partnership has now been established with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

“The partnership has seen the PWC committing itself to provide tailor-made training for chairpersons at no cost.”

The training, he said, will work to effectively enhance the performance of the municipality and its processes.
