WWF celebrates 50 years with black-tie affair

SANDTON – The World Wildlife Fund celebrated their 50th anniversary with a fundraising gala dinner.

The World Wildlife Fund celebrated its 50th anniversary in style by hosting a fundraising dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton.

The organisation works toward preserving the earth’s resources including the oceans, land and wildlife. The fundraising dinner aimed to raise money to continue with the various projects that the organisation is involved with.

As a part of the fundraising initiatives, there was an auction for various wildlife experiences including accompanying WWF South Africa teams on a black rhino notching expedition and a trip to Cape Town to paddle with explorer Riaan Manser in the marine protected area of Simon’s Town.

Guests attended the event in their fanciest black-tie attire and bid on the opportunity to take part in the once-in-a-lifetime experiences. In celebration of the past 50 years, the organisation also shared their vision for the next 50 years.

Riaan Manser shares his experiences as an explorer.

Morné du Plessis, CEO of the organisation, said that the organisation’s success is down to the passionate purpose-driven staff who are dedicated to helping preserve wildlife and their environment.

Kholosa Magudu, the community engagement leader for freshwater projects said that she hopes in 50 years’ time that she will be reminiscing with her grandchildren about the power that people have to create a change. Magudu said that much of her work revolves around the unsung heroes within communities who are dedicated to protecting their environment and educating others.

Du Plessis added that there were many corporate sponsors who have been long-time supporters of the organisation but they were also excited to see many new supporters who wanted to reach out to the organisation and assist.
