Muslim communities give back to residents of Alexandra

SANDTON – Marlboro Gardens community members recently delivered donations to needy people in Alexandra.

Compassionate members of the Marlboro Gardens, Wynberg and Kelvin Muslim communities recently assisted with donations in Alexandra.

The community warmed the hearts of the elderly folk and the unemployed of Setswetla by donating blankets.

Blankets were also donated to the elderly at Alexandra Clinic as well as the unemployed persons at Marlboro Gardens who stand at the robots on Lilium Drive, daily.

The drive is conducted on an annual basis by Lee Ebrahim, together with members of the Muslim community. He said they share the discomfort of the people who live under these poor conditions.

“We wish to help people who do not have enough resources to live better lives and we will always extend a helping hand to our neighbours and to alleviate poverty.”

He continued that as a community we also assist in emergency cases like families who have been affected by the informal settlement.

In addition, Ebrahim, together with Baitun Khair donated blankets and other necessities such as crockery and cutlery to the Alexandra Hospice Rehabilitation Centre.

“It is very touching to see the elderly patients and our hearts go out to them,” said Ebrahim.
