#HowSecureAreYou: Holistic crime-fighting

SANDTON – Quick, efficient collaboration between security, police and the community brings a criminal to book.

Following the quick response from a victim of crime utilising the Eblockwatch network, a same-day arrest was made after a house robbery.

There was a quick reactive response from security and the police.

This according to Andre Snyman, Eblockwatch founder and Bryanston resident, who said these are the fruits of a team effort that brought the criminals to the book.

In this week’s edition of How Secure Are You? an online and print security feature in partnership with Eblockwatch and the Sandton Chronicle, Snyman discusses how the partnership between security, police and the community is so important.

Snyman said that partnering with National Security and Fire means that if an incident happens he can contact their tactical support team for assistance.

“In this incident, a man was robbed by men posing as Eskom employees and managed to gain access to the house. The member then contacted me to assist.”

He said they stole various items worth about R100 000. “The suspects were later tracked to a house in Dobsonville, Soweto after security jumped into action.

“The teams are finding their own spaces in the network and it was put into practice with this robbery.” He said the case was solved because of collaboration and collectivity.

“Eblockwatch sorts out the intelligence and utilises smart technology then provides the information to security and police who are then able to react,” said Snyman.

Snyman said that security is mandated to protect you in your home, but National Security went out of its mandate and reacted in the public community space to someone who is not their client.

“It was great to see them step outside their regular boundaries to assist and to have a company that will go beyond the four walls of your home.”
