Hijackers in Grayston shootout sentenced

ALEXANDRA – Hijackers who caused a pile-up on Grayston Drive are sentenced.

Two men found guilty for a hijacking in March last year were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

Sipho Hadebe and Mbuyiswa Mdletshe will join two of their accomplices in jail. The accomplices had admitted to the crime in January and received similar sentences. A fifth accomplice escaped.

The four were arrested after the VW Golf 6 they had hijacked from a female victim in Fountainbleu in March last year crashed during a high-speed chase on Grayston Drive.

The victim had picked up her children from school and was about to drive into her yard when the hijackers approached her and forced them out of the vehicle and drove it away. A laptop, an iPhone and three bags were in the car.

Her tracking company and the police spotted the vehicle on Grayston Drive, seemingly headed towards Alexandra. When the police switched on their blue lights and siren, the hijackers sped off and a shootout ensued.
