Bryanfern Residents Association hosts Annual General Meeting

JOBURG – The Bryanfern Residents Association discussed some of their challenges and successes during its AGM.

The Bryanfern Residents Association hosted its annual general meeting to discuss some of the progress made throughout the year and to address residents’ concerns.

Throughout the year, the association works to address a number of issues primarily focused on safety and the look of the neighbourhood.

Ian Leo, the coordinator of the committee, said, “In a nutshell, we have to look at how clean we keep our suburb and how safe we keep it.”

Leo said that vacant land in the area had been a challenge as they are both an eyesore and a safety risk. However, he added that they have had some success in having some of the land fenced off, which has decreased the security risk, but the fences need to be maintained.

Ward 104 councillor, Mike Wood, also attended the meeting and highlighted the importance of residents logging their problems with the various entities.

“I ask you all to work through the system and get your reference numbers, if it’s a major burst, then, of course, you should phone me, if it’s a dangerous situation then, of course, you must phone me but as much as I’d love to be able to fix potholes, I can’t,” said Wood.

The meeting also welcomed new committee members who hope to contribute to the association. Leo said that while all the previous committee members decided to stay on in their positions, there are portfolios which haven’t been filled and they hope the new members will be able to contribute to those.

Captain Hein van Heerden, the Sector 3 manager at Randburg Police Station, added that they are working with neighbourhood watch groups and provide safety lessons to domestic workers to assist in crime prevention.
