Five ways to get to work during the #TaxiStrike

JOBURG – Cheaper alternative modes of transport amidst AMRSTA strike.

The Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand and SandtonTaxi Association (ARMSTA) has embarked on a one-day shutdown today, 25 June. The taxi association said the one-day strike is a result of impounded taxis, petrol prices, and removal of roadworthy license discs.

ARMSTA said they wanted to draw attention to the minister of transport about the ill-treatment of the taxi industry and advised commuters to get alternative means of transport.

Here are some alternative and cheaper means of transport amidst ARMSTA’s one-day strike.

  1. Get a lift

A foolproof way to get to where you’re going for almost at no cost, asking for a lift from a close friend or family doesn’t cost a dime and you’ll get to wherever you’re going – provided you don’t take advantage of the lift.

  1. Carpooling

A tried and tested mode of transportation, you and a group of people can travel together in a car and get to your destination hassle-free.

  1. Bus

There are a number of bus stops and routes designated for buses in the City. A cheaper and more efficient way to get around.

  1. Gautrain

Not only is the Gautrain pretty fast but it’s very convenient and is relatively cheaper (depending on how far you’re travelling). The Gautrain App even lets you load your card and plan your journeys and find out how much a journey will cost.

  1. Uber/Taxify

Request a ride at your fingertips! Ubers and Taxify are popular ride-hailing apps in the City. Comfortable, cheap and reliable.
