‘This really gets my goat’ : Sandton SPCA saves pregnant goat

SANDTON – The Sandton SPCA recently rescued a pregnant goat from terrible conditions.

The Sandton SPCA recently rescued a heavily pregnant goat after she was savagely trussed up and tossed onto the back of a bakkie.

Jaco Pieterse, general manager of the Sandton SPCA said the goat was rescued on 5 June after they received complaints from the public.

He said the severely distressed animal had been lying in the parked vehicle outside a butchery in Cyrildene for two hours. “Its front and back legs were tethered so tightly that it restricted circulation and blood flow.

“The butcher, who at first lied to the SPCA inspectors that she was unaware of any goat on the premises, had to quickly change her story when the property was searched and the poor animal was eventually found in the vehicle.”

Pieterse said he is unsure why the goat was being kept there but they suspect it was to be slaughtered. He said it is uncommon for them to have livestock and the manner in which the goat was being kept was cruel and in contravention of the animal protection act.

“Butcheries sell meat that has already been processed and should not have live animals. The Sandton SPCA will not tolerate any animal cruelty. We are here to serve and protect our animals from abuse.

“Charges of animal cruelty and obstruction have been laid at the Cleveland Police Station, where the goat owner is being detained and waiting to appear in court.”

‘Daisy’. her new name, is now safe in the care of the Sandton SPCA and her owner has been charged for animal cruelty.

If you would like to bring some vegetables for Daisy to eat then please visit their office in Marboro.
