The Bryanston garden refuse site, commonly known as the Ballyclare garden refuse site, is due for a much-needed upgrade and will be closed for four months from 31 May to 31 October, and residents in the area are urged to make use of other refuse sites.
Ward 103 councillor, Vincent Earp said he has listened to complaints regarding the state of the site from residents and business owners. Earp said he has been negotiating over a period of time and they have finally made funds available to clean and refurbish the site.
“I have also been working closely with my neighbouring councillor, Ward 102 councillor David Potter on this issue.
“At a meeting with the Pikitup depot management last week, they appointed a contractor who will go on site at the end of May.” Earp said the site will be closed for approximately four months.
“I have appealed for them to also clean up the pavements outside the site.”
The closure means that residents will have to use alternative garden sites. “The illegal vendors on the corner will also be targeted as their collection of second-hand goods destined for the dump will end as supply will dry up.”
Residents and business owners have been calling for months for the City to clean up this site. “Although the closure will cause some inconvenience, it will be worth it in the long term,” ended Earp.
Residents can make use of the following alternative sites for their garden refuse:
- Woodmead garden site, corner Woodmead and Woodlands drives in Woodmead
- Melrose garden site, corner Melrose and Atholl Oaklands roads in Melrose
- Club Street garden site next to Sandringham High School.
