Nigerian songstress refutes reports she was robbed of R300 000 in Sandton

SANDTON – Sandton police said that R300 000 worth of cash and jewellery had been stolen in the robbery.

According to reports, well-known Nigerian singer Niniola Apata was robbed at a fast-food outlet in Sandton, however, she has refuted some allegations in the reports.

The songstress, known for her hit song Maradona, is currently in the country to promote a new song with South African singer Busiswa. It is alleged that Apata was sitting at a fast-food restaurant with her husband when three men approached them.

Captain Granville Meyer, a spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station, confirmed that a case of robbery had been opened. Meyer said that according to the complainants they had been at a mall in Sandton and went to a fast-food outlet afterwards, where they were robbed.

Meyer added that jewellery and cash estimated to be in the region of R300 000 was taken during the robbery.

However, in a tweet, the songstress denied having a large amount of cash saying, “Who carries that kind of cash around? Lol.”
