[ICYMI] #WilliamNicolShooting: One victim killed and two rushed to hospital

SANDTON – Sandton Chronicle reported to the scene of the incident and can confirm that one of the four victims was found dead.

Sandton police have launched a manhunt following a shootout on the corner of William Nicol and Sandton drives on Thursday, 17 May.

According to Captain Granville Meyer, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station, the incident occurred at 3.05pm.

“When the victims’ car approached the robots, the suspect started shooting at the car with an AK-47 and then jumped on his motorcycle and drove off,” said Meyer.

The victims were driving a silver 4×4 Volkswagen Amarok.

He said after they were shot at the driver rushed to the nearest service station to seek assistance.

“The car had four people inside of which one died, two were injured and rushed to hospital, while the other one survived,” he said.

Meyer said the police are investigating the matter and the reason behind the shootout is unknown.

Update, 17 May, 6pm

Four victims were shot at in their vehicle near the William Nicol and Sandton Drive intersection on Thursday afternoon, 17 May.

It is said the victims were travelling towards the traffic lights when they noticed a man on a motorbike following them.

When the victims came to a stop at the intersection, the suspect opened fire at their vehicle before speeding away.

The victims drove to the nearest service station on William Nicol Drive.

One person died, while two others were injured and rushed to hospital. Another victim also survived.

This is a breaking story and will be updated as soon as more info becomes available.

 

Update, 17 May, 5.20pm

At 3.05pm on Thursday, 17 May, paramedics responded to reports of a shooting incident on William Nicol Drive near Sandton Drive.

Paramedics from Netcare 911 and another ambulance services attended to two male shooting victims. One was in a critical condition and was quickly transported by ambulance to hospital under the constant care of a Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedic.
The second victim sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation.

 

Earlier, 17 May, 16pm

There are reports that a shooting has taken place on William Nicol Drive at a service station, and emergency services are at the scene. Motorists have been urged to avoid the area.

Sandton Chronicle is currently at the scene but access to the service station has been closed. We are awaiting further information.
