TAKE NOTE: Protest action at the US consulate set to take place today

SANDTON – The PSA set to protest Trump's decision to officially recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The Palestine Solidarity Alliance (PSA) is expected to hold a demonstration outside the US Consulate General later today, 15 May.

The PSA is protesting US President Donald Trump’s decision to officially recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, a departure from the previous US and international position of neutrality on the status of the city claimed by both Israelis and Palestinians.

Yesterday, 14 May, there was an inauguration ceremony for the new US embassy in the city.

Participants are expected to gather outside the Consulate on Sandton Drive, as well as at the intersection of Sandton Drive and Rivonia Road.

City officials have issued a permit authorising 300 people to participate in the event. The protest is scheduled to last from 2 pm until 6 pm and traffic disruptions are expected in the area.
