After a murderer was on the run from the law for almost a year, a Bramley police officer cracked the case, arrested the suspect – and got a conviction.
Zondo Leaveit (21) was found guilty of firing at a shack in April 2016 in Marlboro, leaving one person dead and another injured.
A criminal case was opened at Bramley Police Station and the case was assigned to the station’s detective, Warrant Officer Jimmy Ngobeni to investigate.
According to the spokesperson for the station, Captain Molefe Mogodi, Ngobeni worked very hard by following all possible leads until he arrested Leaveit in 2017.
He was charged with murder, attempted murder, housebreaking with intent to commit a crime unknown to the state, possession of an unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and malicious damage to property.
Leaveit stood trial at the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg where he was convicted on all six charges.
The convicted criminal will spend a total of 38 years in jail.
Bramley Police Station Commander Colonel Owen King commended Ngobeni for the good work he had done.
