Sandton City set to launch Fun District

SANDTON – Sandton City takes family fun to a new level.

Sandton City is taking fun to a new level with a R90-million upgrade that will see the mall transformed into a playground for the whole family, with a new area of the mall being dedicated to family fun, entertainment and food at Sandton City’s Fun District.

The Fun District is scheduled to launch this Saturday, 21 April, and has been designed to attract families by giving them an opportunity to spend time together in a unique environment.

“Families are looking for more ways to spend time together and Sandton City is a great place to do that. Sandton City’s new family fun level adds another exciting dimension to the ultimate shopping variety and experience on the continent, which is in line with Liberty Two Degrees’ strategy of creating places of difference in our malls,” said Jonathan Sinden, chief operations officer for Liberty Two Degrees for Sandton City.

The new attraction features the first Hamleys World in South Africa.

The Finest Toy Shop in the world will continue to bring smiles and laughter to children with never-before-seen experiences and activations at its new Sandton City store, including a slide for children straight into the store, and a carousel in-store.

Sandton City’s new family fun spectacular will come to life in its completely revitalised cinema level, which already offers Sandton City’s 11-screen Ster-Kinekor cinema complex including Cine Prestige, 2D and 3D experiences. They will also introduce their own spectacular new experiences at Sandton City, including South Africa’s very first kids-only cinema theatre.

The launch will kick off on Nelson Mandela Square with a Hamleys Parade led by the ringmaster and accompanied by an abundance of  Hamleys’ beloved characters, as well as the City Cam crew.

Kids of all ages are encouraged to dress up as their favourite Hamleys character and join the parade to stand a chance to win a R4 000 Hamleys hamper and also get to meet their favourite Nickelodeon characters, as well as SA’s Got Talent 2016 winner, DJ Arch, who will be playing in the Fun District from 1 to 4pm.
