Kings College hosted its first ever Easter Festival filled with loads of activities, food, shopping and an Easter egg hunt.
The festival saw thousands of learners and their parents visiting the school in Bryanston on 31 March and 1 April to take part in the fun. Activities included skateboarding, parkour and soccer competitions, an art exhibition and a cake-baking contest. A Kid Zone with jumping castles and a miniature train kept smaller children entertained.
The parkour and skateboarding were particularly popular with many of the learners, parents and staff.
Adriano Franco, who was involved with the organisation of the festival said, “The main event of the festival was the Saturday programme and we really weren’t sure how people would respond to the invitation. It was our first event of this nature and we wanted to do something different to the other school festivals over the Easter period. As it turned out, we were delighted with the support from the community with over 2 500 people attending on the day.”
The festival took just over six weeks to pull together with staff members, parents and members of the church all getting involved to make sure the festival was successful.
“We have wanted to be far more intentional about using our facilities to invite members of our surrounding community to come and enjoy themselves in a safe environment with their friends and family and it’s definitely something that is going to be a constant in our calendar moving forward,” added Franco.
Franco added that the festival was a huge success thanks to the learners and parents who were really invested in the event. “It wasn’t just the running of stalls and volunteering on the day where their support was felt, but also in the excitement they had around the event and making sure they invited friends and family to enjoy the day with us. We want to say a big thank you to them.”
