Princess of Kent battles to preserve wildlife

SANDTON – Her Royal Highness, Princess Michael of Kent recently launched her book.

Her Royal Highness Princess Michael of Kent arrived in South Africa to join hands in the battle to preserve our wildlife with conservation and wildlife experts.

An event was held on 28 March at a Birdsview private residence in Sandhurst and raised awareness around the global fight against wildlife extinction and the innovative ways South Africa is contributing to conservation across Africa.

A highlight of the event was the official book launch of the princess’s new book, A Cheetahs Tale. This passionate autobiographical tale tells of the bond that can exist between people and animals.

Written by a natural storyteller and packed with photographs, it is also a poignant portrait of Africa, and a call to action to defend natural ecosystems. As the Royal patron to the Cheetah Conservation Trust and The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, Michael joined The Ichikowitz Family Foundation and other charitable organisations in the campaign to save the plight of the rapidly decreasing cheetah population, for which she has a great fondness.

Highlighting important innovative solutions in the struggle to conserve natural resources, The Ichikowitz Family Foundation announced conservation tactics using specially trained guard dogs that protect and promote the potential for humans and cheetahs to co-exist, thereby safeguarding dwindling cheetah populations.

A Cheetah’s Tale is hoped to be a catalyst to further promote cheetah conservation and highlight the bond between humans and cheetahs.

Michael also made an informative multimedia presentation to guests at Birdsview.

“Cheetahs have to run and it is vital for cheetahs to have adequate living and breeding space. One of the greatest battles in global conservation is finding the balance between wildlife and humans.” She said the plight of the cheetahs personifies this difficult struggle.

“It is our responsibility to ensure we secure enough space and the survival of this extraordinary animal.”
