Sandton police make several arrests

SANDTON – The Sandton police had various crime successes the past week.

Domestic arrested:

The Sandton Police Station recently made several arrests and had successful convictions of criminals for crimes committed in Sandton.

A domestic worker and one accomplice have been arrested for a house robbery in Khyber Rock on 20 March.

The two women, aged 29 and 30 years old were arrested by the Johannesburg north cluster Trio Tracing team after a suspect made a confession to police and has appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

This according to Captain Granville Meyer, a spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station. “Goods with an estimated street value of R387 000 were stolen during the arranged house robbery in February this year.”

He added that five additional suspects were arrested for the case this morning in Witbank. “They were also found in possession of an illegal firearm and the motor vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also recovered.

“All the suspects are in detention and will appear in court soon.

“We would like to urge the communities to take the necessary precautions when employing domestic workers and gardeners since they are often colluding with criminals to commit house robberies and burglaries.”

Meyer said the community should make copies of a potential worker’s identity or passport documents and ensure that workers are in the country legally.

“They can also send their employees for a police clearance to ensure they are not employing criminals.”

Hijackers arrested:

Captain Granville Meyer, a spokesperson for the Sandton Police said two suspects were arrested in two separate hijacking cases.

The first suspect was arrested following an incident in Woodmead where two suspects hijacked a vehicle and stole jewellery and cellphones from the victim with an estimated value of R283 000.

The second suspect was arrested for an incident that occurred on the M1 highway where the suspect and three accomplices hijacked a victim’s vehicle.
