Riverclub residents host Easter egg hunt
RIVERCLUB – Residents gathered for an Easter egg hunt at Poplar Park to raise money for future upgrades to the park.
An Easter egg hunt held at Poplar Park saw dozens of families gathering to try their luck to find the most chocolates.
The community event, held on 18 March, encouraged families to use the beautiful park on their doorstep, support local businesses and help raise money for the continuous improvement of the park.
Nicci Mitchell, who assisted in organising the event, told the Sandton Chronicle that it was a team effort that had come together quite seamlessly with the help of moms from the area.
Jumping castles sponsored by Pam Golding entertained children while parents had the opportunity to listen to local musicians perform. Community member Paula Mackenzie also donated wine for the day which was sold to raise money for future upgrades, primarily fencing in the park.
The community’s efforts have helped raise money for a jungle gym and future plans include a fence, bike trail and walking path for the park.
About 100 children joined in for the Easter egg hunt. “It’s a great sense of community and for these events, we all just divide and conquer. I think if people see the value in having the park they won’t mind contributing and getting involved,” said Mitchell.
Mitchell added that adding in the jungle gyms had made residents more excited to get involved with fundraising efforts as they could see the improvements in the park.
