Twenty-three energetic Crawfordians and two enthusiastic teachers recently visited Fidelitas High School in Soweto to share some mathematical basics with their Grade 8s.
The classes consisted of 15 to 23 Grade 8s; they were given three tutors from grades 10 to 12, who explained the basics of integers and fractions to them.
The one-on-one sessions were followed by a short break after which the Grade 8s were given a test on the morning’s lesson.
The tutors marked the tests, handed these back to the students and provided valuable feedback to the students.
Patricia Duncan a teacher from Crawford College Sandton said, “Peer-to-peer teaching is mutually beneficial, as the Fidelitas Grade 8s enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of being taught by their peers, and our tutors find it hugely rewarding to be involved in this worthwhile programme.”
