SANDTON – A man was shot and killed after a follow-home robbery on Grayston Drive.

A man has been shot and killed in a basement of a hotel – which is also an apartment complex, on Grayston Drive.

The incident happened on 26 February between 10pm and 11pm.

A resident who lives in the building and who wishes to remain anonymous out of fear for her safety said she heard a lot of gunshots, not just a few.

“I heard the gunshots and a lady screaming that her husband has been shot dead. Her screams will stay with me for a long time to come; I feel so sorry for this lady and her family.”

She said a lot of police vehicles arrived as well as two ambulances. “This parking lot has security and cameras are installed in the building.”

The body corporate of Hydro Park has sent a letter to residents of the property regarding the incident. The trustees provided the report from 24/7 Security regarding what happened. The report from 24/7 Security stated that guests entered Hydro Park after a night out.

They were followed by an unknown number of suspects driving a white Mercedes-Benz.

The guests were confronted by the suspects and during the altercation, shots were fired.

The victim was fatally wounded and it appears that only his personal firearm was taken.

Captain Granville Meyer, a spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station confirmed the incident.

“The victim, a 51-year-old man and his wife were followed from a restaurant and when they got to the hotel the suspects tried to rob them.”

Meyer said a scuffle ensued and the victim was shot multiple times. A case of murder has been opened.
