Sandton SPCA well on its way to a new vehicle

SANDTON – The Sandton SPCA recently launched a crowdfunding campaign to purchase a much-needed vehicle and is close to reaching their goal.

The Sandton SPCA has launched a crowdfunding initiative for a new vehicle following an incident where they were too late to save a dog due to a shortage of vehicles.

Sandton Chronicle reported on the incident in Sandton SPCA needs an extra vehicle, Week ending 9 February, how the lack of an extra vehicle prevented the SPCA from reaching the animal in time.

Since then, the SPCA has launched its crowdfunding campaign to raise the funds and has, to date, amassed R88 339, just R2 000 less than their end goal of R90 000.

The Sandton SPCA only has three bakkies to cover a very large area and the new vehicle will assist in helping to reach more animals in distress in time.

The crowdfunding campaign was launched on Back-A-Buddy on 31 January and according to Jaco Pieterse, general manager for the Sandton SPCA, the decision to crowdfund was because they need the money urgently. “Crowdfunding is a quick and easy way to raise funds. The Back-A-Buddy platform is also safe and easy to use, making our donors feel more at ease when donating.”

Pieterse said the average donations ranged from R100 to R1 000 from donors. “Some of our regular donors also contributed towards the vehicle.”

The crowdfunding will run until they have reached their goal of R90 000 and thus far there have been 180 donations towards the campaign, with the majority coming from the Sandton area, but others are from across the world.

“The funds will be used to purchase a good second-hand vehicle,” said Pieterse.
