Redhill School raises R10 000 for Woodrock Animal Rescue

MORNINGSIDE – Youngsters from Redhill helped raise R10 000 for Woodrock Animal Rescue's new clinic through their Valentine's Day sleep over.

Youngsters from Redhill School helped raise R10 000 for the Woodrock Animal Rescue to help them provide onsite veterinary care to the animals they take in.

Woodrock Animal Rescue, which is situated in the Hennops River Valley, is a non-profit, pro-life rehabilitation and rehoming shelter for animals.

On 10 February, 25 children from Redhill boarded a bus and headed to the animal rescue centre in an effort to raise funds for the clinic at the rescue centre.

When the Redhill School Environmental Committee heard about the sleepover, they recognised the value of the project. The committee raised sponsorship to fund the registration of the 25 children, who in turn donated more funds for the initiative.

Bavani Govender, Victoria Millar and Angela Tennant from Redhill School spread the love.

Teacher in charge of the environmental committee, Melissa Ho said, “The children loved it! They really got a feel for the incredible work that Woodrock Animal Rescue does.

“We learned that Woodrock takes in any animal in distress and cares for them in very impressive facilities. The animals are not cramped together in cages – each animal has its own kennel with its own bed. The puppies even have a play area. The sleepover was really a wonderful Valentine’s Day initiative.”

Head of the school’s environmental committee, Gabriel Fine said, “Redhill School extends their thanks to Woodrock Animal Rescue for hosting their students and staff and the amazing adventure that was enjoyed by all.”
