Joint operation busts three criminals

SANDTON – Community members and police officers work together to fight crime in Kelvin.

 

Metro police, Sandton police, ZSS Security and the Sandton Guardians recently came together in a joint operation and arrested three suspects.

The operation was launched following a tip-off from community members regarding suspicious activity in Kelvin.

Counterfeit watches are found during the operation.
Live ammunition is found by police officers.

According to Captain Granville Meyer, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station, the suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, ammunition and counterfeit goods on 13 February.

“The suspects aged 28, 36 and 50 were found in possession of 180 packets of marijuana, seven ecstasy tablets, seven packets of ‘Cat’, two mushrooms, drug paraphernalia and 18 counterfeit watches,” said Meyer.

“The members reacted to a tip-off from the community and responded rapidly.”

Major General Khehla Sithole of Johannesburg North Cluster congratulated everyone involved and said, “This is truly a collaborative effort to rid our suburbs of criminality and it illustrates what teamwork can achieve.”

The trio appeared in Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 14 February.
