Perfume gang leaves no scent

SANDTON – The gang targeting perfume stores has hit again.

The Clicks store at the Wedge Shopping Centre has been hit for the second time in four months, apparently by the same gang.

The previous robbery occurred on 8 November last year when the gang tied up security guards to gain access to the store.

Stefan Maloney, CEO of TRT Security said it was the same gang that hit the store last year with the same modus operandi. “They came in at 4.30am on 7 February, broke in and stole all the perfume from the store,” he added.

Maloney said the gang consisted of four men and they were in and out in less than five minutes.

“No one was hurt during the robbery and the suspects fled in a white Chevrolet bakkie.”

Captain Granville Meyer, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station confirmed the incident took place.

“The suspects broke through the sliding doors, broke shelves and stole the perfume.”

Meyer said the damages are estimated at R150 000.

Attempts have been made to contact the shopping centre.

Susann Caminada, Clicks spokesperson said, “Clicks can confirm that there was a break-in at Clicks Wedge Shopping Centre in the early hours of 7 February and that no staff or customers were present during the time of the break-in. We are working closely with police and mall security to enhance our security measures.”
