Parkmore Community Association seeks to fill a number of board positions

PARKMORE – The Parkmore Community Association is looking for new board members to assist them in positions of finance, communications and management.

The Parkmore Community Association (PCA) is appealing for members of the Parkmore community to join the PCA board and be part of a team striving to make a difference by serving their suburb and protecting the integrity of the area.

Kate Wardle, who has served on the board since she moved to the suburb in 2013, is now leaving the area and desires for the association to grow from strength to strength in 2018.

The board is looking for volunteers to serve in the positions of finance, communication, marketing, management of PCA staff and driving the Driefontein Farmhouse Project.

“We are looking for people with good communication skills, people management and a passion for the suburb. We need strategic thinkers, people who can help with the planning issues long term with a vision for the suburb,” said Wardle.

The current board will appoint a new chairperson and deputy chairperson from within the existing directors.

Wardle will be moving to Randburg to be closer to her children’s school. “During the last five years since I have been involved, we have achieved a lot as a community – radically increasing safety, creating a successful partnership with 24/7 security, helping to clean up George Lea Park, implementing road closures, revamping Shandon Way park and improving the community in general. Together, the board and I have refocused the strategy of the PCA to be able to report back annually on our objectives. We have also become a far more professional organisation in that we have a full-time financial administrator, a suburb manager and a cleaning crew.”

Wardle believes that a strong community association builds relationships with the City and councillors on behalf of residents, representing member interests on civic and planning matters as well as being a voice advocating for improved security in the policing vicinity.

“It’s affirming to be part of a team making a difference and rewarding to get to know your neighbours and make a contribution.”

Details: Those interested in being part of the board can join a meeting and chat with the current board about what is involved in each position. Email your CV and a short letter of motivation to Kate on chair@parkmore.org.za by 5 February to find out more.
