2018 was a busy year for news and Sandton Chronicle readers had their fair share of protests, fires, crimes and feel-good stories.
Let’s take a step back in time and revisit the top 3 stories:
1) UPDATE: EFF compiles landless’ database in prep for land invasions
Alex and other local residents gathered early morning on 25 March for the third consecutive day at the intersection of Far East Bank and Marlboro drives for what the Economic Freedom Front party (EFF) called a registration for land which would be used for housing.
2) High-speed police chase ends in Waterfall, three Rolex Gang members arrested
Johannesburg Flying Squad has made strides after acting on intelligence which led to the arrest of three suspected Rolex Gang members after a high-speed chase, which ended on the corner of Maxwell Drive and the R55.
Sergeant Desmond Subramoney said, “On 7 March at about 1.30pm, three suspects were arrested and two firearms were found [one Uzi and one 9mm Parabellum] at the scene.”
3)Person falls off of Sun International’s head office building, police investigate
Zoleka Skweyiya, group manager for communications and customer insights of Sun International has just confirmed the identity of the deceased to be Dan Sevel (40) who was the sports marketing manager at sun international.
Skweyiya added that the company has offered counselling services to their staff.
