Nott discusses a successful year at Brescia House School

BRYANSTON – Principal of Brescia House School Benedikte Nott reflects on the successes at Brescia House School in 2017.

Brescia House School headmistress Benedikte Nott summarised the many successes of the girls’ school located in Bryanston with the Sandton Chronicle.

She mentioned the successes of the alumnae, academia, sport, cultural and community service activities over the year as well as some of the events the school had the privilege of hosting.

Nott said that the alumnae had grown from strength to strength over the past year. “I was struck by the excitement, the energy, the enthusiasm and the love that the young women of the Alumnae Committee exhibited.”

She said that the committee was characterised by the attitude of serviam and sought to be of service to past and present pupils and their parents. “Their knowledge of current university requirements and career experience will be an invaluable resource for our senior girls… We hope our current Matric group, who were the first to be officially inducted, will soon experience the welcoming warmth of their alumnae association.”

She added that she was pleased with the school’s academic and sports achievements this year. “We congratulate all of our 2017 sportswomen for their all-embracing contributions. We have achieved consistent excellence in swimming, hockey, netball, tennis, orienteering and equestrian events. I urge interested parties to visit our website and blog for details of our many successes.”

On the cultural front, Nott said the school experienced a wonderfully enriching and busy year through their participation in music, choir and drama, displaying true perseverance.

She said that the school’s oratory teams forged a notable name for themselves on the debating and public speaking circuits and will be considered a formidable opposition in 2018. “Our junior debaters won both the Sacee [South African Council for English Education] and GDL [Gauteng Debating League] debating leagues and our senior girls made it to the semi-final rounds of both Sacee and GDL debating leagues.”

Nott said that Brescia House School’s community service efforts this year spoke to both the heart and spirit of pupils. She added that the school has assisted Nazareth House, Johannesburg Children’s Home, the Nelson Mandela Hospital Fund, The Teddy Bear Clinic, CHOC and Cansa organisations.

In July, the school hosted the Global Ursuline Conference, giving them the opportunity to showcase both the school and the country to the people at the conference.

Brescia House also hosted the Schoolnet Learning Technology Conference for 500 delegates and was visited by the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Mohamed Enver Surty. “Brescia House School is an acknowledged leader in the field of technology and to be able to successfully host this number of delegates in an IT environment speaks to the passion and commitment of the staff.

“As a school, we continue to be faced with the challenge of developing the spirit in our pupils so they are able to decipher whether or not through their passion, their true gifts and talents and their service, they are truly creating and distributing value to others.”

Nott wishes the broader community a most blessed Christmas. “May they experience the love of God through family and friends and so be renewed on life’s journey for 2018.”

She went on to quote an unknown author with the following statement: ‘Christmas begins in God’s heart and it’s complete when it reached the heart of man with love and understanding’.
