Kaylee Jones is a bright young woman from Duxberry in Sandton.
When she was born, she had a large amount of fluid in her lungs that prohibited her from breathing normally.
Doctors thought it was pneumonia and misdiagnosed her while Kaylee was actually suffering from chylothorax which has caused her to develop cerebral palsy.
This has made Kaylee’s life difficult – especially in terms of mobility – but this setback hasn’t stopped her from making a huge difference in the world. With the help of her mother Gabbi and the Duxberry community, Kaylee has managed to donate two wheelchairs to less-privileged children who are also dealing with mobility issues.
“We have been trying to find something purposeful for Kaylee to invest her time and effort into, and when we heard about an initiative to collect bread tags in order to fund wheelchairs for less privileged children, we knew that this was for her,” said Gabbi.
With the help of the Duxberry community, Kaylee managed to collect enough bread tags and monetary contributions to purchase two wheelchairs.
“Whenever I put a bread tag in my jar, I feel good. I feel like I’m making a difference. Some children are stuck between four walls all day because they cannot afford the luxury of mobility. I want to help change that,” said Kaylee. She has decided to continue her mobility crusade and has once more started collecting bread tags to help mobilise disabled children from disadvantaged communities.
