Parkmore foiled house break-in sees two suspects arrested after two hours

PARKMORE – After a two-hour long chase, two suspects were arrested and two firearms recovered.

Thanks to the swift action by the private security company 24/7 and Sandton police, two suspects were arrested in Parkmore after an attempted break-in early in the morning of 27 November.

The arrest took place on 27 November and was confirmed by Geoff Shapiro, the operations manager at 24/7.

“The suspects jumped the walls between a few houses and one of our guards, together with police, found [one] suspect hiding in a tree,” said Shapiro.

He said this was a textbook case of private security and state security working together to prevent crime.

Kate Wardle, chairperson of the Parkmore Community Association, said they received reports that the police were at a property in Parkmore. They had received a tip-off about a planned break-in at a house. and were assisted by 24/7.

Wardle said, “24/7 sent in additional vehicles and between them and police they cordoned off the area. We are extremely grateful for the amazing response from the police – including sending in a helicopter – and for 24/7 [who put] in an additional two cars and their excellent response.

“The association is grateful to both the police and 24/7 for their bravery and commitment to get these criminals off the streets. They risk their lives for us every day and we commend them for their actions.”

Brigadier Egen Moodley, station commander at the Sandton Police Station said, “Members of the Joburg North cluster crime intelligence received information of a possible house robbery in Parkmore and launched an undercover operation together with members of Sandton’s serious and violent crime detectives from 6am.”

Moodley said at 8am members received information of two suspects that were on Lilian Street in Parkmore and proceeded there.

“The suspects fled and were chased by the police, 24/7 security and ADT/Fidelity. Two suspects were arrested in 9th Ave in Parkmore and two unlicensed firearms with ammunition were recovered,” said Moodley.
