Sandton SPCA rescues three neglected dogs

A Buccleuch resident's Maltese dogs were removed from him after he severely neglected them.

The Sandton SPCA recently removed three very badly matted and neglected Maltese dogs from a home in Buccleuch.

Jaco Pieterse, general manager of the Sandton SPCA, said the inspectorate received a complaint regarding the condition of the dogs and an investigation was conducted. “The owner was issued with a warning in order to get the dogs groomed and one of the dogs also required veterinary attention for a skin condition.”

He said the owner did not comply with the warning – the dogs were not groomed and no veterinary attention was provided.

“When we tried to follow-up to see if the dogs received the required attention the owner did not open the gate for us and did not take our telephone calls. Ample opportunity was also given to get the dogs groomed and provide veterinary attention.”

Pieterse said, “The owner claimed he was not in a position to afford the grooming or provide veterinary attention. Having said that, the owner owns a few fancy cars and two homes.”

Criminal charges of animal cruelty will be laid against the owner.

“The Sandton SPCA will not tolerate any animal neglect. We will not hesitate to take action when animals are being abused.”

Pieterse asked the community to please report animal cruelty to their office on 011 444 7730.
