MEC Nkosi-Malobane welcomes sentence delivered in Sandton River Club murder case

JOBURG – Heavy sentence handed down to criminal involved in the murder of a Riverclub resident.

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, has welcomed the sentencing of Fannie Mbombe, one of the four suspects in the 2016 Sandton River Club case.

Fannie was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment for murder and 15 years for robbery. The first accused in Sandton River Club Case pleaded guilty last year and received life imprisonment.

The judgement was handed down on 15 November at the Johannesburg High Court. The case is still proceeding against the remaining two suspects involved in the murder and robbery case.

On the 20 February 2016, the victim was shot dead when he was about to leave his home in River Club during an attempted vehicle hijacking. A firearm allegedly used during the murder was recovered by police on the scene.

“I am confident that the sentencing of the suspects will send a strong message to criminals out there that the criminal justice system will not hesitate to impose harsher sentences to those found guilty of such atrocious crimes. Our hats are off to the police for the thorough investigation as well as putting together a water-tight case. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased and I hope they will find closure,” said Nkosi-Malobane.
