Yadev Singh, owner of Sticky Waffle at Grosvenor Crossing, said he was transporting water from outside the area to clean dishes at his business. “Yesterday we bought still water for the coffee machine. We need about 40 litres of water to survive the day. I’m doing all the transportation myself.”

Manager at Adega Restaurant at Grosvenor Crossing, Abdul Doola said, “I have to cart in water from Observatory and Mayfair to run the restaurant. We need between 600 and 800 litres of water to cater for ourselves. We are transporting bakkie loads to do the washing up and cooking.”

Marketing coordinator at Bryanston High School, Bronwynne Byrne said, “The situation here is fine. We have filled bins with water from the swimming pool and tanks so that students are able to flush the toilets after use.
“There is a cleaning rep outside each of the bathrooms to assist. We have been without water since Tuesday. Unfortunately, there is no drinking water and we encourage students to bring their own drinking water to school.”

Acting principal of Bryanston Primary School, Morne Marx said the school had been inundated with calls since false reports emerged saying that they have a water tank. He no such tank had been delivered.
“If this situation goes on for another day, we are going to have to decide about what to do going forward because there won’t be water for sanitation. The rainwater tank is currently being used but it is nearing empty. If needs be, we will use swimming pool water for toilet use.”
Residents affected by the water outage in the area also expressed their concern.
Mandy Hunt from Bryanston said, “We had six five litre bottles that we were using yesterday. Today I went to the shops and there was only sparkling water left. We are making friends with people who have boreholes to get by. The situation makes you think out of the box and innovate.”

Bryanston resident, Sam Malebana said he used the water in his geyser and reserves yesterday, but is not sure how he will flush the toilet tonight. “I haven’t seen tanks anywhere where I can get water,” said Malebana.
